The N&O’s article on shopping centers refusing to allow bus stops on their property created a firestorm in the letters section today.  One shopping center property management firm tried to defend itself here by arguing that the decision was a safety issue and that “We are a corporate citizen who has and will continue to try to give back to the community in a meaningful way.”  In other words, the city can steal our property for a bus stop as long as the stop is safe.

The letter writer from Crag Davis Properties in Cary (surprise) should have said: “The city can use shopping center land for a bus stop when, and only when, it buys it.”  Period. End of story.
