Won’t someone please think of the children?

Seriously, we already know that property crime is not a priority for CMPD. This has to be almost off the radar screen.

And speaking of crime, I’ve been waiting for the new Charlotte magazine cover story on crime in the Queen City to hit the Internets for a couple weeks now. It will shake official Charlotte to its core if they read it and understand it.

Unfortunately, the entire Web site for the mag seems to be offline now, a recurring problem it seems.

So for now, we’ll go with Tara Servatius’ quick overview of the story, which points out that Charlotte does not have a police chief. We have a social worker-in-chief.

Oh, and here are some telling stats from the magazine that pretty much make Charlotte’s crime problem impossible to ignore, all data from 2005:

City Charlotte Austin San Jose
Population 610,949 680,899 680,899
Homicides 85 26 26
Robberies 3,649 1,182 884
Burglaries 12,783 7,285 4,049
Vehicle thefts 7,098 2,548 5,507
