The N&O wants to bail out people who borrowed in the subprime market.

A March 15 news article noted, “Up to a quarter of the homes sold in North Carolina in 2006 were bought with subprime loans, according to industry estimates.”

Another story from July 2001 mentioned the high number of African-Americans and Hispanics in the subprime market, but focused on the positives of homeownership versus renting.

At least the paper has been consistent. Their news and editorial staff have encouraged homebuying without concern about the risks and now they want to absolve people of the risks inherent in any investment decision, which leverage only compounds (cf. LTCM).
