In this week’s TGIF (The Goal is Freedom) column Sheldon Richman writes about one of the great libertarian philosophers of all time — Frederic Bastiat.
“Bastiat,” Richman writes, “brimmed with controlled outrage at the French politicians and writers who so blithely presumed that other people’s lives were theirs to dispose of in grand experiments.” That’s the entire Obama agenda in a nutshell — a grand experiment in social reformation. Does Obama know what the consequences will be? No, but he (like most politicians who purport to “represent” us) fancies himself so wise that his tinkering can only have beneficial effects. In any event, he won’t feel any ill effects. They will be visited entirely on regular people — the people he treats like pawns.
