Following JLF‘s release of David Hartgen’s study on public transit in the state’s largest cities, a list of media outlets drew reports from the region-specific press releases, or interviewed the author or JLF staffers familiar with the findings. In Charlotte (News 14, coverage), Hartgen reminded residents and commissioners that some transit schemes depend on utopian ideas of growth and development that don’t conform to reality. In Durham, courtesy of the Herald-Sun, Hartgen explainded why Durham, based on efficiency and effectiveness, may want to adopt a public transit system similar to Chapel Hill’s model which offers free fares. Statewide, Hartgen made appearances on the Matt Mittan Show in Asheville and a local news station, News Channel 13, WLOS, and did an interview with Creative Loafing.  John Hood took the reins, participating in a discussion with WUNC’s “The State of Things.”
