bbAt least that is the word coming from the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections. The petition has gathered enough signatures of registered county voters for the question of a repeal of the half-cent transit tax to be put on the ballot for November.

Next up — certification.

After that — I predict some sort of legal challenge to the repeal being on the ballot. The Powers That Be both locally and in Raleigh cannot allow this notion of actually asking voters about important issues of taxing and spending to stand. The last thing they want is a debate on the costs and benefits of any given government program.

Too bad. They got one.
