An article in the local daily argues the city just added $300,000 in services to its public transportation system, and now it is cutting services for the most disabled.

The “paratransit” system uses special vans and serves disabled riders unable to use regular city buses. Greg Godwin, transportation planning apprentice, said if riders are able, the staff wants to encourage them to use the regular buses, which are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Did you catch that? Of course you did. The city wants to woo onto its buses “choice riders,” people who are able to afford their own transportation but opt to take advantage of subsidized services. To those who are in really bad shape and need public services, perhaps because they aren’t cool enough, they advise, “Go ahead. Make my day.”
