The pro-rail forces are a powerful lobby at the General Assembly. From the Herald-Sun:
The House voted 77-40 on Tuesday to tentatively approve legislation allowing voters in Forsyth, Guilford, Wake, Durham and Orange counties to decide whether to increase local sales taxes by half a cent and car registration fees by up to $2.
I think it’s safe to assume that the transit tax will be on local ballots soon. The question is, will voters approve a tax to support a rail plan, even though it’s clear that the Triangle’s suburban-urban lifestyle does not support the density required to make rail viable, and that rail comes with many negative consequences?
