Elected officials can often be VERY wrong when they read election results. A good example of this can be found in the Asheville Citizen Times this morning Henderson County Commission Chair Bill Moyer clearly misses the point in his county
?As far as I?m concerned, the people have said, ?We want to pay for (schools) through a property tax increase,?? Moyer said.
Moyer misses the point by assuming that voters were picking a property tax increase over a transfer tax. He also missed an opportunity to say that voters want he and his fellow commissioners to look at other county spending.
?I think any time you pose a new tax you have a major obstacle,? Moyer
said, ?and I think the Realtors did mount a very aggressive,
well-financed campaign, (combined) with our inability to spend any
county money? on advocacy efforts .
He’s lamenting that taxpayer money could not be spent pushing the effort and threatening a property tax increase without ever mentioning that voters want them to look at trimming spending, ahh such leadership! Pervasive, unfortunately.
