As I mentioned yesterday, the left needs to keep people enthralled with the notion that government must save them from ruin. The falsehoods about the Depression and New Deal serve that end. So does the idea that global poverty is due to capitalism and free trade.
GMU economics professor Tyler Cowen here reviews an atrocious “documentary” film that he says is even worse than the screeds of Michael Moore. The film endeavors to convince people that the widespread poverty in the southern hemisphere is due to that old bogeyman, capitalism. It’s exactly the kind of simplistic nonsense that’s apt to get passionate but uninformed college kids railing against the imaginary evils of economic liberalism.
