Hey, campus lefties! Afraid participating in a vigil to remember your countrymen killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks would ? for a brief moment ? put you in solidarity with people who don’t think America had it coming because we’re a big oil-consuming military-industrialist imperialist meanie-pants &c. &c.?

Well, cheer up! UNC Chapel Hill’s Campus Y has just the solution (this from “The Listserv for UNC’s Progressive Community”):

———
In response to a few people’s questions about whether or not there will be a vigil on September 11th:
?
The Campus Y will have a candle light vigil with both secular and religious speakers at 7:00 on the steps of South Building, this upcoming Thursday.
?
In order to provide a different space to grieve and remember the Campaign to End the Cycle of Violence will be playing a video called “It’s Raining on Santiago” in Hamilton Hall 100 at 7 pm on September 11th.? September 11th is also the anniversary of the day the democratically elected leader Salvador Allende was overthrown in Chile in 1973.

To recap:
? Rallies sponsored by Stalinist front groups: Good
? Vigils to mourn Americans killed by terrorists: Geez, guys, can’t we find some alternative?
