Back in April I couldn’t believe this bad idea would not die, now nothing surprises me. Squeezing a 10,000 seat stadium on a little over three acres of county-owned land in Third Ward is a stupendously bad idea. Right now, the plan has little support, but hey this is Charlotte, where an Uptown arena can be opposed by almost 60 percent of voters and still get built.

More omniously, Center City Partners seems unwilling to turn loose the idea of knocking down Memorial Stadium and putting a baseball stadium there. Shades of City Fair there, what with another historical structure being gutting in favor of the latest fad development. Back then it was the old Carolina Theatre that was replaced. That turned out well, huh?

Prediction: The county will soon “discover” that Memorial can only keep operating with an infusion of X millions of dollars in renovations. As that money is not available, the only sound thing to do is knock it down and put a baseball complex there.
