Mecklenburg County Commissioner Valerie Woodard passed over the weekend. I didn’t agree with her positions, but she presented them in a straight-forward, passionate manner. Every community needs that from its leaders. She will be missed.
Local Democrats will have to decide if they go the 2-for-1 route in replacing Woodard on the commission. Do they appoint one person to finish her current term and another to go on the ballot? Or one person for both slots? Woodard was running unopposed in District 3 — shame local GOP — so a new nominee gets the office.
