From the Associated Press comes news of what may happen in Virginia today. It’s the latest story of pushback from the states on the congressional proposal to force every American to buy health insurance — the so-called individual mandate.

The Senate is expected to vote on bills that would prohibit Virginians from being required to purchase health care if such a mandate were included in federal health care legislation.

The three bills that could be voted on as early as Monday are similar to others introduced in nearly 30 states as Congress debates President Barack Obama’s health care proposals.

A few days ago, Republican leaders in the North Carolina General Assembly staked out their position that they will fight an individual mandate from the feds. Video of the news conference is here.

Following the news conference, N.C. House Speaker Joe Hackney responded. You’ll find the response here.
