The Winston-Salem City Council is pondering a $100 million bond for the November ballot:

A final list of what the binds would pay for has not been approved, but a tentative list includes such things as sidewalks, renovations to Winston Lake and improvements at Benton Convention Center.

The tentaive list also includes economic development projects that could give incentives to companies to expand or relocate to Winston-Salem and transportation projects, such as a streetcar system.

Interesting that council member Dan Besse framed the issue in terms of the city “running out of low-hanging fruit,” adding that the city manager is “at the end of his rope in things that he can suggest to cut without doing serious damage to our public safety infrastructure…..”

Then he turns around and suggests borrowing money for a streetcar.
