Is it me, or does just about every Winston-Salem Journal editorial on economic incentives start off with ‘we’re not a fan of economic incentives, but…….’

Here’s the ‘but’ regarding collection agency CFS II, and the Winston-Salem City Council follows suit, signing off on $500k in incentives, with clawback provisions.

No surprise either, the Journal says the council is ‘on the right course’ by looking into the Silk Plant Forest case, in the end possibly filing an amicus brief in support of a new trial for Kalvin Michael Smith.

The council met in closed session last night to discuss the matter and will probably do so again at its Aug. 6 meeting.
