Inside Scoop reports they were tipped that Sen. Trudy Wade was ‘leading the charge’ on state legislation that would “affect — and potentially reopen” Gboro’s White Street landfill.

Wade denies, saying the “only people that can re-open the White Street Landfill is the Greensboro City Council,” although she might work on ‘landfill-related legislation’ later this session. Note the N&R’s sourcing:

Councilwoman Nancy Vaughan and former City Councilwoman Goldie Wells said Wednesday they heard rumors that Wade is working on a White Street Landfill bill.

The rumors stem from comments State Sen. Brent Jackson made to a group of local representatives who met with him in late March on Town Hall Day, a chance for city and town officials to talk to state leaders.

Jackson was one of several elected leaders who met with Greensboro council members and representatives from local economic development and business associations.

Jackson told a small group that he was helping a local legislator on landfill legislation.

“He just made a passing comment that he was working with, if I remember correctly, someone from the Triad delegation to make sure you can use your landfill,” recalled Marlene Sanford, director of the Triad Real Estate and Building Coalition, who was in the meeting.

Sanford said no one in the group asked Jackson to be more specific about what he meant.

Since that meeting, stories have swirled around Greensboro about Wade.

Makes you wonder if Marlene Sanford knows what Jackson meant, considering her legislative ambitions.

I’d think Wade would want to make it easier for the City Council to reopen the landfill, and with landfill opponent and Mayor Robbie Perkins’ turbulent personal life, the votes could swing.
