Mecklenburg County Commissioner Bill James has already notified the county attorney and county manager about the Wake County change, which cited a state Supreme Court ruling that made taxpaying funding for such procedures against state law.

The Wake change required no vote by the commission. The change was made at the direction of the county manager. Mecklenburg’s policy currently does pay for elective abortions, according to James. He adds that county officials told him that they are reviewing county policy in light of Wake’s action.
