Wake Schools’ interim superintendent Stephen Gainey is moving to Randolph County to be superintendent of that school system. He sounds very excited to lead a much smaller system in an area he loves; good for him. Here’s a fascinating fact in the story:

Gainey’s announcement came as Wake has seen major transition in its leadership since September.

After Tata was fired, he was named state secretary of transportation by Gov. Pat McCrory. Tata has hired away seven Wake school employees to serve in leadership roles in his department.

Seven people have followed Tata to DOT. It makes you wonder why seven people want to work for a man who’s been cast by the Democratic majority on the school board as uncooperative and difficult. Hmm. Do you think there could have been politics at play in Tata’s firing? Nahhhh — not on a “nonpartisan” school board.
