Here’s a philosophical article. Crime was down in Asheville during the snow storm. The reporter noted one factor was that public safety personnel were somewhat stranded and unable to issue warrants. Another might have something to do with my friend Connie’s observation that criminals are lazy. She used to live on top of a hill. At night, she asked her kids to haul their big toys to the top because she figured no lazy bum would exert himself to steal them. She lived in a high-crime neighborhood at the time, and to my knowledge her security system worked. Now, if she was correct and criminals are lazy, wouldn’t they prefer to get a job (that lets them take a snow day) than to trudge, hauling contraband knee-deep in the stuff?

And if they aren’t lazy maybe they’re smart enough to realize they would leave a trail.
