I was coming in to work this morning and found myself behind a bright green school bus with Vermont license plates. On the back was a Web site address, thebiggreenbus.org. When I got to work I checked it out and here’s what it says:
We are a group of Dartmouth students committed to promoting the use of sustainable energy through education and example. On a school bus converted to run on waste vegetable oil, we are traveling around the country fostering awareness about current global energy issues and creating dialogue about tangible solutions to those problems.
As I see it, fuel is fuel. It’s all, to hear enviro wackos tell it, precious. Everywhere we turn, enviros lecture us about wasting resources. Well, here’s a group of Dartmouth do-gooders traveling the Eastern seaboard burning up precious vegetable oil that could be better used for french fries and funnel cakes. Am I missing something here?
UPDATE: I said “Eastern seaboard” before looking at their itinerary. Seems they’re going all over the entire country. Interestingly, they’re spending three days in New Orleans, where Mayor Ray “School Bus” Nagin will undoubtedly welcome them with open arms.
