Our president, who had a brief flirtation with decisiveness and backbone, has now reverted to his natural nanny-state state. He thinks the photos of a dead and perforated Bin Laden would be too traumatic for the American public.
I’ve got news for him, any nation that has made “Bones,” “NCIS” and all the “CSI” offshoots major hits would have not problem seeing Bin Laden at room temp with a couple of holes in his head.
If we knew the truth, I think the feelings of the American public would be the furthest thing from his mind. Some are saying he’s concerned about the reaction of “the Arab street.” As a U.S. Senator, however, he had no problems with the release of the Abu Ghraib photos, or the flag-draped coffins of dead American servicemen, or the gruesome Daniel Pearl video, or if he did, he never mentioned it.
I think what he’s really concerned about is the reaction of Arab leaders and the imams of the world. He’s been pandering to them for more than two years. Why stop now?
UPDATE: How the Obama administration thinks the Bin Laden photos could be any more inflammatory to radical Islamists abroad than these graphic photographs is beyond me. (Warning: beginning with the sixth photo in this series things get pretty gruesome.)
