Jim Black has long telegraphed a plan to appeal his convictions on state and federal corruption charges, particularly if he receives a long jail sentence.

Judge Boyle needs to put all that aside and consider that fact that Jim Black, in exchange for sacks of cash, sold out the people of North Carolina. His victims number in the millions. As a result, it is hard to see how Black does not merit a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
