An evolutionary biologist was run out of the Smithsonian because, as editor of one of its scientific magazines, he published a single paper defending intelligent design. The attacks from the rest of the “scientific community” were fierce, as you can see in the Washington Post article, which said Richard Sternberg was “smeared as a ‘creationist.'”

I didn’t know “creationist” was a smear, but I guess in some quarters it is.

And this quote says it all about the monolithic nature of the Smithsonian:

“We do stand by evolution — we are a scientific organization,” said Linda St. Thomas, the spokeswoman.

Like, duh…
