Last night the Greensboro City Council hired Deputy City Manager Jim Westmoreland to replace outgoing City Manager Denise Turner Roth, who is returning to her native D.C. to take a position with the federal government.

A speculated earlier that Westmoreland –who served nine years as the city’s transportation director— would be the council’s choice. But I also expected the dog and pony show — as Triadwatch put it– of a national search just so the council could appear as though they’re performing due diligence. The vote to hire Westmoreland was 8-1 –with newcomer Jamal Fox casting the lone ‘no’ vote.

Fox said —according to the N&R — his vote had nothing to do with Westmoreland —he just “didn’t want to rush through the process.”
