Hillary and Obama have been trying to out-do each other in blaming the economic conditions in Ohio (which in truth, are better than they were in 1993) on free trade, particularly NAFTA.

As Thomas Sowell observes here they never mention the real culprit — unions. The UAW in particular played a short-sighted game of extorting all it could from the (former) Big Three years ago and now the consequences are apparent. In the world of Democratic politics, though, it’s imperative to kiss up to Big Labor. The truth that union greed is largely responsible for the poor state of certain areas of the country can never be uttered.
