What are “student activity fees” spent on?

Writing this week’s Pope Center Clarion Call Jenna Robinson discusses her findings in a recent study on student fees in the UNC system.

Her primary finding is that relatively little of the money is actually spent on things that could be called student activities. Most of the money is spent by administrators on stuff like postage and maintenance. In truth, “student activity fees” — which have been rising considerably — are mostly additional tuition.
