Correct me if I’m wrong, but pretty much everyone —–especially local mainstream media —– pronounced the Winston-Salem Dash’s inaugural season in its new taxpayer-financed downtown stadium a resounding success.

Then why is Dash owner Billy Prim so reluctant to turn the team’s financials over to the city’s stadium review committee?

No worries, though —–Mayor Allen Joines will lean on Prim.

(Insert sarcasm.)

Update: After carefully reading various media accounts, I concede loyal commenter Stormy’s point that Prim has “has complied with legal requirements.” The Citizens Baseball Stadium Review Committee also released $800,000 in payments to the city. Supposedly that information should satisfy the taxpayers’ right to know.

Still, it is hard to buy Prim’s argument that publicly releasing the team’s financials would compromise its competitive edge. Who’s the competition —teams in other cities? You’d also think Prim —of all people —- would bend over backwards to keep citizens in the loop after they financed his stadium, without which he would have no competitive advantage.
