For all the talk about budget cuts destroying the classroom as we know it, Terry Stoops, director of education studies at the John Locke Foundation, reports that there are plenty of teacher jobs going begging in North Carolina:

The North Carolina Public Schools Application System, which does not include listings for Wake County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg, lists 672 vacant positions. Of these, 365 are teacher or teacher assistant jobs.

Wake County has 82 teacher positions available. Charlotte-Mecklenburg has 119 openings for instructional personnel.

Durham Public Schools lists 58 licensed teacher jobs available right now, by the way.
