One item near the top of the list has to be discussion of the positive benefits of Western civilization.

The Pope Center’s Jane Shaw explained some reasons for the omission during her speech today before the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society (video):

Many — certainly not all — but many faculty members really do not teach about the sources of our success as a society, of modern society, not just in the United States, not just in Europe, modern society. They do not teach the sources of success. And the reason is they don’t think we have a successful society. … They think we have sprawl. They think we have destruction of the environment. We have pollution. … We have obesity. We have Wal-Marts. From their ivory towers, which may or may not be in Chapel Hill, they’re looking out comfortably ensconced, but what they see is bad. And that’s what they’re telling our students about.
