Again, we return to my innumeracy. At the last meeting of the Buncombe County Commissioners, Assistant County Manager Mandy Stone said, “What I really have is a social work staff who’s earning 2.5 weeks a month of overtime.” She was requesting support for a budget amendment in the amount of $119,925. From this, I was not able to know if the 2.5 weeks a month was total or per capita; prolonged or for a single month; minimum, maximum, mean, median, or mode; or for a staff of eight or 200. I placed inquiry with the county, but I remain unable to articulate my question in manner that justifies an answer. I said a ballpark idea would be fine, but I is-pose they don’t track that kind of data.
