This is totally crazy, and if I’ve missed something, please help me out.

The High Point Enterprise reports:

It looks like the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority may not have to consider a joint agreement among High Point, Greensboro and Jamestown regarding the pump station that eventually will be built on N.C. 62/Coltrane Mill Road.

At a water authority meeting Tuesday, Tom Phillips, Greensboro authority representative, said the Greensboro City Council voted unanimously not to go forward with the proposed agreement that would have given High Point and Greensboro the go-ahead to handle the design, construction and financing for the pump station.

“At the Greensboro City Council meeting, they voted unanimously to scrap the idea of Greensboro/High Point building the pump station. Just let the water authority do it like it originally planned to,” Phillips said.

Which meeting? The last time the City Council met was on primary day. While I watched part of the meeting, I personally didn’t see them discuss the Randleman pump station, nor did I see it mention in the N&R write-up. The fact that PTRWA director John Kime just heard about it on Monday tells me it hasn’t been reported, because (I assume) he keeps a pretty close eye on news regarding the Randleman Dam. That the N&R is posting a McClatchy story tells me they’re just hearing about it, too.

Remember, this issue is about getting the pump station built as quickly and cost efficiently as possible so that water from the Randleman Dam can start flowing as soon as possible. The last we’d heard was that PTRWA had signed off on the cities of High Point and Greensboro working together on the pump station after Greensboro City Manager Mitchell Johnson wagged the dog. Now the council has apparently backed out of the deal, and the public is hearing about it second hand from a PTRWA board member who happens to be a former Greensboro City Council member.

I don’t get it. Again, if I’ve missed something, help me out.
