Am I jealous? I created a substantial carbon footprint and left messages yesterday trying to get AB Tech’s position on rumors about the tax hike on the referendum. The rank-and-file on campus referred me to the college’s spokeswoman, whose office was expecting me before I arrived. Nobody even presented themselves to know what my questions were.
Meanwhile, the people who would have had the answers, if there were any, appear to have been at a celebration party of sorts. Had I known, I could have gotten some official statements about not being able to comment. Erin Brethauer of the Asheville Citizen-Times did manage to take photos of the luminaries at the party. In good journalistic fashion, the “where” of this story remains hush-hush. Maybe the celebration was held in somebody’s house, but the revelers wanted ijut Tea-Partiers to generate more allegations about using tax-funded buildings to campaign for higher taxes.
The scene agitated me to the point of needing a break. I was not alone. The bulk of armchair commentators appear miffed even more to see well-heeled college higher-ups and politicians cheering as they learn the peons will be giving them more money.
