The headline of the N&O article is “Power shifts at public schools.” Clearly, Governor Perdue is the main beneficiary of the power shift. Her appointee, Bill Harrison, will lead the Department of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education.

As for June Atkinson, the NC Superintendent of Public Instruction, Perdue said that June was an “ambassador” but not a “figurehead.” (I guess figureheads have too much power.)

June needs to stop taking it on the chin. She has allowed Howard Lee, Mike Easley, and now Bev Perdue to publicly disparage her work and her office. It is time for June to fight back or go home.
