kkIt is a question for the ages. One of the city of Charlotte’s official partners in the Bobcats — and the only one in the music biz — dropped a new album last week. On one of the 14 tracks of sound-alike pop-hop Nelly asks musical question “Who F___ Wit Me.”

Evidently all the reviewers do, Mr. Haynes.

“Dated,” “generic,” and “stalling for time” are among reviewers’ descriptions of Brass Knuckles, Cornel Haynes’ first offering in four years. Those takes on this effort seem rather charitable for tracks like the aforementioned “Wit Me,” which kicks off with a flourish of pseudo-flamenco guitar before settling into a clumsy groove dotted with n-words and references to strip clubs and easy women. Then there is the track Rolling Stone describes as a competition between Nelly and Akon “to come up with the catchiest way to express how horny they are.” I missed the catchy part. Then again it is hard to top yet another masterpiece “Ucud Getit” which opens with “Hey baby girl, congratulations you may just be the best bitch I’ve ever seen” and continues the uplifting theme.

In other news, the Bobcats are holding an open house this Saturday from 3pm to 6pm at the Uptown arena. There will be ice cream for the kids and “an afternoon of fun.”

Just don’t let anyone eff wit you.
