This Winston-Salem Journal story about the Senate’s tax package contains this hilarious quote from Sen. Tom Apodaca.

Republicans are already making fun of the plan. Sen. Tom Apodaca, R-Henderson, pointed out that the Senate package would raise a fee for health screenings for newborns from $10 to $14 and raise the tax on caskets at the same time. “We get you coming and going,” Apodaca said. “The good news is animal semen is tax-exempt. But candy bars are going to cost you more.”

What’s not so funny is that this story also illustrates how badly this budget process need help, as well as a heavy dose of common sense and sound economic policy.
