In response to a four-part plan to increase welfare, government health insurance, housing subsidies, and study how progressive taxes are in the state, a state senator on the Joint Legislative Commission on Poverty Reduction and Economic Recovery said:

We can take the existing pie and redistribute it with [an Earned Income Tax Credit]. Some people pay in more taxes and then we leave some more on the table for those at the lower end. But that doesn?t expand the pie. …

I don?t really see a clear proposal to increase the economic pie to be shared.
