Big frickin’ surprise.

As we noted the other day, 2007 is a city of Charlotte election year. The mayor and city council are up for election. As a result, the budget spit out by the city manager does not feature a property tax hike.

The Mecklenburg County Commission, however, is not up for election until 2008. As a result, it is safe for County Manager Harry Jones to ask for a 3.25 cent property tax hike in order to pay for his $1.46 billion budget, a nine percent increase over last year.

This should be fun.
