From today’s Raleigh News & Observer comes the disingenuous quote of the day from a state government spokesperson. In a B-1 story about the push to give the public timely access to information on corporate welfare deals (aka economic incentives) handed out by the state, Easley spokeswoman Sherri Creech Johnson is quoted as follows:

“We will work with interested parties to make sure our incentive programs remain transparent and accountable.”

Huh? Remain transparent? Perhaps then, Creech Johnson can explain to taxpayers why it took the filing of a lawsuit by the NC Press Association and Carolina Journal to pry open Department of Commerce files on the $242 million giveaway to Dell Computers.
