Dipping our toe back in the 2009 delinquent property tax pool, we note that both Paramount and Crescent Resources paid Mecklenburg County property taxes well past the Jan. 6th deadline for interest penalties — but paid no penalty.

The county database indicates that Paramount paid its $255K bill for Carowinds on Jan. 18th, but none of roughly $5K penalty the county had initially calculated. Still, the county shows a zero balance for the parcel. Same deal for Crescent and an Uptown office building — $67K paid just today, none of the penalty, zero balance.

Contrast that with John Belk, who paid his $48,467 bill on Jan. 14th, according to the county site. But the county still shows Belk still owing almost $1000 in interest. Why?
