If you asked somebody what they wanted today, they might say they want a job, or a better one, maybe they want to be able to keep their house or pay their bills or keep the collectors off their backs. In Waynesville, that’s different.

“Everybody wants it so badly,” [Jan Griffin] said. “Everyone we’ve talked to has wanted the arch.”

It seems the mini-park at the corner of Main and Depot streets needs an arch. Defenders of the public interest just wanted the board of aldermen to commit to helping with the installation of the arch and improving the stone wall around the park so it could be safe and attractive. A funding source for said arch has not yet been named. Who knows? Wouldn’t it be swell and unforeseen if the cost were to fall back on taxpayers?
