In the waning hours of the 2007 session, bills are flying like bats, lobbyists are scrambling, and legislators are just plain grumpy.

One bill that was anticipated to pass today, but apparently has been waylaid, is Senate bill 1492, Solid Waste Management Act. This bill would impose many new government restrictions on landfills, possibly enact a moratorium on new landfills, and impose a new tipping tax of $2.00 per load.

John Hood wrote CJ column this week explaining how these regulations would impact local governments. The rumor is that the bill lacks the votes to pass, which would be a very good thing for North Carolina.
