John Locke Foundation VP for Research Roy Cordato is a huge fan of Felix Cavaliere and The Rascals (nee The Young Rascals). He informs me that Felix and the current incarnation of The Rascals are involved in a summer festival tour that might even get me out of my chair and to a live concert.

This tour is a Boomer’s dream, but the nice thing about this concert is it’s not completely filled with cranky lefty whiners from the Woodstock era.

On board are Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals, Mountain, Canned Heat, Lovin’ Spoonful, Country Joe McDonald, Mitch Ryder, Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, Rare Earth, Melanie, Badfinger, Janis Ian, Denny Laine, Terry Sylvester, Dr. Hook, and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

OK, Country Joe and Janis Ian can get a bit tiresome and preachy, but, overall, this is a good-time bunch. Unfortunately, it looks for now like tour stops are limited to northeastern states. But if I could be assured that Lovin’ Spoonful lead guitarist Zal Yanovsky will be there to do the electric gargle on “Bald Headed Lena,” that Melanie will sing “Candles in the Rain” and Vanilla Fudge will do “Set Me Free, Why Don’t You Babe,” I might have to break out the VW microbus with the flowers on it and head north.
