Add some more weird to the transit tax debate.

The Charlotte Chamber sends out the news release on the formation of Pat Mumford’s pro-tax group. Several members of Mumford’s group also have ties to the Chamber. Michael DeVaul, senior VP of the Greater Charlotte YMCA (University City Chamber), Joni Davis, Duke Energy executive (Lake Norman Chamber and the Chamber-connected City Committee), and Frances Harkey, former chair of the Chamber’s Airport Area Council.

Yet as the Observer noted, Chamber chief Bob Morgan did not attend the presser.

Of course there are other Uptown crowd connections. Davis, of course, is a co-worker of one Patrick McCrory and Harkey served with former city councilman, Uptown fixer, and McCrory confidant Stan Campbell on the Airport Advisory Committee. Campbell eventually replaced Harkey as chair, a position he still holds.

In addition, Mumford announced developer and city zoning commission member George Sheild as part of his pro-tax group.

Still looking for the “grass-roots” in this group.

There’s much more to add about this cast of characters in the coming weeks, not to mention CATS and Cherokee Investment Partners. Should be interesting.
