A bipartisan group is sponsoring legislation to create a nonpartisan legislative redistricting process for North Carolina, an idea the John Locke Foundation has endorsed. Supporters discussed House Bill 824 during a morning news conference at the Legislative Building. It’s based largely on the redistricting process now in use in Iowa.

In addition to Reps. Rick Glazier, D-Cumberland, David Lewis, R-Harnett, William Current, R-Gaston, and Ray Rapp, D-Madison, reporters heard from two people who rarely agree on legislative issues: Chris Fitzsimon of N.C. Policy Watch and John Hood of the John Locke Foundation. Both are members of the N.C. Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform.

Watch the 25:01 news briefing below to hear these comments, along with piped-in Skype commentary from Iowa Reps. Vicki Lensing and Peter Cownie.
