When Rep. Tim Moffitt (R-Buncombe) suggested that “Local governments can always decide to pay teachers more,” public school advocacy groups scoffed at the suggestion.
But in Brunswick County, the school board decided to do just that. They will use local funds pay teachers more – up to 10 percent more than the state base pay. The article does not say whether Rep. Moffitt will receive credit for the idea.
