Charlotte Observer reports the Queen City is prepared to set aside $110 million in hospitality funds in support of Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper’s bid to secure a Major League Soccer franchise. And while nothing is official, all indications are MLS will announce next Tuesday that Charlotte will be home to the league’s 30th team. Eight potential team names have been registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and permits have been issued for a big announcement in Uptown next week.

As for the $100 million, Mayor Vi Lyles wrote funds will be “set aside to help ensure a successful venture over the next many years.” But no doubt they will be dedicated to upgrades to Bank of America Stadium and team headquarters and practice facilities on the “Eastland” side of town.
