In this column, Kyle Olson writes about the almost unbelievable attacks that have been aimed at Teach for America by bigwigs in the education establishment, trying to use the Newtown shooting to besmirch a useful organization. It’s quite bad enough that the education blob tries to maintain its hegemony by opposing any and all competition (TFA enables college students who have not gone through the blob’s training ground of “education school” to get into the teaching ranks), but to use the shooting of children as an excuse to renew the attack on TFA is simply despicable.
Incidentally, next Tuesday the Pope Center is holding an event where a representative of TFA and several other people (including Terry Stoops) will talk about changes the state should make in order to get better teachers. Details are available on our website.
