The final version of House Bill 1224,Local Sales Tax Options/Econ. Devpt. Changes, failed 47-54 after an impassioned debate on the House floor. JLF’s Becki Gray wrote about the tangled process surrounding the seemingly unrelated components of the measure in an open letter to legislators here. Twenty-six Democrats joined 28 Republicans in defeating the bill.
The House and Senate expect to roll out a conference report dealing with coal ash regulations Wednesday, and then adjourn sine die, concluding a short session that lasted several weeks longer than expected.
