The North Carolina Center for Voter Education has notified NBC 17 that its 2004 election coverage, featuring “At Issue” co-hosts Donna Martinez and Cash Michaels, will be honored with the group’s Spectrum of Democracy Award. The award recognizes “service to the democratic process in our state.” For two months prior to November’s election, Martinez and the “At Issue” team produced 40 segments for the station’s 6 p.m. newscasts in an effort to frame the issues affecting Triangle communities. Other award winners include WRAL-TV and WUNC Radio.
